The IUPUI Community Learning Network

In today’s economic climate, trying to find a high-paying job without a college education is nearly impossible. That is why the leadership at Indiana University-Perdue University Indianapolis started their Community Learning Network that focuses on continuing education and lifelong learning. Each year the network provides more than 600 continuing education classes to over 7,000 residents in Central Indiana.

Classes are designed to be easily accessible for adults who may already have other obligations. Students who enroll in the program can take classes at corporate locations, community centers, high schools, or through the internet and public television. While students have the chance to earn a traditional bachelor’s degree, there are other learning options available to those who sign up. There are currently 17 continuing education certificate programs offered through the Continuing Education (CE) program. Financial literacy classes for adults are among the most popular classes offered by the CE program.

The IUPUI General Studies department also gives students who have dropped out of the university to focus on other obligations the chance to complete their degree requirements on their own terms. The degree is designed to be flexible in order to allow students to design a course load that fulfills their own personal and professional goals.

The IUPUI Community Learning Network offers businesses and other organizations the chance to help make their employees more productive by continuing their education as well. Businesses that sign up to be part of the network can enroll their employees in workforce development programs tailored to each individual organization’s needs. Language, computer training, and medical project management classes are only a few of the certificate programs that organizations in the Central Indiana region can take advantage of.
