Partners has a long and distinguished history in the use of culture, heritage, design and the humanities to help people reclaim their neighborhoods.
In 1993, Partners began an extensive developmental program called Culture Builds Community, which aims to systematically place cultural assets within the portfolio of community development efforts. The project began in New York City under the sponsorship of CitiGroup Foundation with CitiGroup grantees. It expanded to work with the Enterprise Foundation, the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, the William Penn Foundation, the Kellogg Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and others.
After over 15 years working on this agenda, Partners is currently working to formalize and expand many of its current Culture Builds Community activities through the creation of new initiatives, programs and entities within the organization.
